CUMULUS has been ordered by the FCC to pull W266AN/LEXINGTON, KY off the air due to interference to co-channel MOUNTAIN BROADCASTING SERVICE Country WSGS/HAZARD, KY.
In a letter to CUMULUS, which uses the translator to rebroadcast News-Talk WVLK-A/LEXINGTON, the Media Bureau's Deputy Chief JAMES D. BRADSHAW noted that MBS had identified 51 interference complaints from WSGS listeners, including in-car and at-home listening. CUMULUS was given until FRIDAY, APRIL 22nd to resolve the complaints, but instead appealed; BRADSHAW noted, "CUMULUS cannot extend this deadline simply by filing an appeal." The letter, dated YESTERDAY (6/20), orders CUMULUS to cease operation of the translator immediately and apply for program test authority to return to the air once the interference is eliminated.
