The GLOBE AND MAIL reports that CRTC ONTARIO Commissioner RAJ SHOAN has been removed from the agency with cause by the federal cabinet upon the recommendation of Heritage Minister MÉLANIE JOLY. The unusual move comes after SHOAN, who has clashed with Chairman JEAN-PIERRE BLAIS on several issues and has filed three legal actions against BLAIS and the Commission, was accused of harassing a CRTC employee by email; JOLY's press secretary declined to comment, citing privacy law.
SHOAN announced in a statement that he will file for judicial review of the case, charging that the Governor in Council, which rescinded his appointment, "has violated principles of natural justice and procedural law" and adding, “It is my hope that, in the interests of fairness, justice and due process, all parties will abide by and respect the time required for the Federal Court to issue a reasoned, thoughtful and considered judgment on the matter,” he added. “I have and will vigorously defend any false accusations in this matter.”
