YAHOO! SPORTS RADIO is rebranding on AUGUST 1st as SB NATION RADIO under a new partnership between SB NATION parent VOX MEDIA and YSR operator GOW MEDIA. Programming will include editorial talent from SB NATION, including SPENCER HALL, PAUL FLANNERY, DAN RUBENSTEIN, ARIEL HELWANI, and THOMAS GEORGE. YSR has been under the YAHOO! brand since 2011 and was previously known as SPORTING NEWS RADIO, ONE-ON-ONE SPORTS, and SPORTS ENTERTAINMENT NETWORK.
“The creation of SB NATION RADIO is an exciting extension for the SB NATION brand, and the reach of our community of reporters and fans, to a new platform that is such a natural fit for sports coverage and commentary,” said SB NATION VP/Editorial Operations KEVIN LOCKLAND. “GOW MEDIA is one of the largest national sports radio networks, and SB NATION is the fastest growing digital sports brand. Together, we’re excited to introduce a fresh vision of sports radio to a new generation of listeners.”
“SB NATION RADIO will stand apart among the older legacy brands in the sports radio network landscape. This is not your grandfather’s sports radio network,” said GOW MEDIA CEO DAVID GOW. “SB NATION is young, fastpaced, and digitally savvy. This is the tone and energy audiences will hear on SB NATION RADIO.”
GOW, speaking with ALL ACCESS, added, that "while we've had a great five years with YAHOO!" with substantial growth, SB NATION has "ascended like a rocket ... we're excited to tether ourself" to the growing site. He noted that the site's breadth of coverage and stable of writers offers the radio network additional opportunities to develop talent.
