OMNY STUDIOS, the Australian-based podcasting platform, announced TUESDAY in a webinar co-produced with RAIN NEWS that its audience measurement technology can now include data from APPLE's Podcasts app. OMNY's MATT SARACENI said that the data capture from the widely-used app may be the first of its kind; the issue of access to data from podcast consumption via APPLE's app has been a topic of major discussion in the podcasting industry due to APPLE's tight control over the numbers.
No details of how OMNY pulls the data were disclosed, although SARACENI offered that OMNY could compile metrics for 30% of listening through the app, which is credited with 80% of podcast listening.
In a release after the webinar, OMNY said, “The team has pioneered a new way to capture listening data from the world’s most widely used podcast player, so you can get an approximate understanding of verified plays, skip and drop-off points from a previously untrackable sample of APPLE Podcast listeners."
