CONNOISSEUR MEDIA Rock WDRC (102.9 THE WHALE)/HARTFORD and News/Talk WDRC-A (1360 WDRC, 1420 WMMW, 1240 WWCO, 610 WSNG)/HARTFORD devoted all day THURSDAY (AUGUST 25th) raising money for CONNECTICUT CHILDREN'S MEDICAL CENTER, with its RADIOTHON, now in its 14th year, breaking previous one-day totals by raising $145,000.
102.9 THE WHALE started the day in the hospital cafeteria at 5:30a with CHAZ & AJ broadcasting across their network of stations (102.9 THE WHALE, Rock WPLR [991 PLR] and Rock WFOX [95.9 THE FOX]) and featured interviews with patients, families, doctors, and dignitaries including SENATOR RICHARD BLUMENTHAL. They were joined in the early hours by SCOT HANEY from WFSB-TV, who broadcasted live. At 10a (ET), ALLAN LAMBERTI and MICHAEL PICOZZI continued the fundraising effort until 6p (ET) and eventually raised $26,000 more than last year.
On WDRC (THE TALK OF CONNECTICUT), legendary personality BRAD DAVIS hosted his morning show from inside the hospital. He was then followed by ED OLIVERIA, who continued the effort until NOON.
Commented CONNOISSEUR MEDIA CONNECTICUT GM KRISTIN OKESSON: “The RADIOTHON is a day that really puts things in perspective. I am so proud of the CONNOISSEUR team for breaking the previous one-day total. To raise $145,000 for the only freestanding children’s hospital in CONNECTICUT is truly an honor, and the generosity of our listeners continues to impress and delight me.”
