For the first time since GEE ROBERSON was named head of the label in 2011, GEFFEN RECORDS is up and running again under veteran A&R/Management Executive NEIL JACOBSON, who announced the move on his TWITTER account. He previously was EVP/A&R at INTERSCOPE.
JACOBSON was with INTERSCOPE for 15 years, where he was responsible for the signings of LMFAO and DJ SNAKE -- who will follow him to the new GEFFEN -- as well as managing WILL.I.AM, ROBIN THICKE and producer/songwriters JEFF BHASKER and EMILE HAYNIE.
The label's initial roster will include AVICII, ALUNAGEORGE and DJ SNAKE, as well as L.A. developing artist BOOTY.
DAVID GEFFEN originally founded his namesake label in 1980 as a joint venture with WARNER BROS. before selling the label to UNIVERSAL in 1990 for $800 million right before it was acquired by MATSUSHITA in 1991. Executives who cut their teeth at the fabled label include EDDIE ROSENBLATT, GARY GERSH, JOHN DAVID KALODNER and TOM ZUTAUT, as well as artists as diverse as NIRVANA, GUNS N' ROSES, PETER GABRIEL, JONI MITCHELL, NEIL YOUNG, DON HENLEY, AEROSMITH, MARY J. BLIGE, BLINK-182, COMMON, THE ROOTS, SONIC YOUTH and BECK.
