CUMULUS Country WIVK/KNOXVILLE has teamed up with local businesses to help feed furloughed government employees who are working without pay. Today (1/18) station staffers delivered food from SUBWAY to workers in the JOHN J. DUNCAN FEDERAL BUILDING. Those who showed a federal ID got a free sandwich from station mascot WIVICK. See photos here.
Morning team TONY RANDALL and KRIS ROCHESTER put out an on-air call for help for the employees and got an immediate response from listeners. One law office donated $3,000 in grocery gift cards for the furloughed employees. Another local realtor wrote a large check to an area pharmacy to help cover costs for those federal employees who couldn’t afford their prescription drug co-pay.
The station has more related events coming up next week with other local business owners.
