Stern: "Two Or Three" Affiliates To Switch To Jack-FM Tomorrow
October 24, 2005 at 7:16 AM (PT)
HOWARD STERN told listeners MONDAY morning (10/24) that he's heard from his sources that some of the stations he's on will be flipping at 8a TUESDAY to JACK-FM formats.
STERN said "There are plans afoot, and let me announce to you right now that tomorrow morning at 8:00, 8 am, during my show, there will be a few markets, small markets, which will switch to the JACK-FM format." He said that "a huge chunk of my audience will disappear tomorrow," but then amended that to "two or three" stations.
I guess it's the F.U. to Howard
"I guess it's the F.U. to HOWARD," STERN complained. "We have such disrespect for you and the twenty years you put in here ... the F.U. comes tomorrow." He also said that his show could in another scenario be pulled from the air completely on TUESDAY in a switch to the "new" talk format tipped for several of his affiliates, but said he wasn't sure of that and gave a brief "farewell" to the listeners who will lose the show on TUESDAY. (Regarding the FM Talk rumors, asked by ROBIN QUIVERS about the stories that WXRK (92.3 K-ROCK)/NEW YORK will flip to talk, STERN said flatly "it will").
The allegations came after STERN charged that "there's even a concerted effort in this company (INFINITY) to badmouth me," and managed to be possibly the only person to consider the WASHINGTON POST part of the "religious right" for writing about his ratings drop in WASHINGTON ("the religious right is writing articles about me").
STERN said that "I don't consider JOEL HOLLANDER ... my enemy. I have nothing against the guy, I don't," and said he is inviting HOLLANDER, LES MOONVES, and other INFINITY managers to come on the air and say goodbye to him, but then made his charges of a company effort against him. STERN is scheduled to leave INFINITY in mid-DECEMBER and will join SIRIUS SATELLITE RADIO for a JANUARY 9 start.
