FCC Renews AL License, Proposes More Fines For Late License Renewal Apps

The FCC has granted the license renewal of SLATTON AND ASSOCIATES' WBTG/SHEFFIELD, AL over the objections of JAMES W. BONNER, who claimed that WBTG deliberately overmodulated and emitted spurious sideband transmissions to block listening of WTAK/HUNTSVILLE in the FLORENCE-MUSCLE SHOALS-TUSCUMBIA area. SLATTON noted that the stations are onfirst-adjacent channels, making interference normal and acceptable in that area.
The Commission also issued another round of proposed fines for late renewal applications, $1,500 each to JOEL J. KINLOW (WBTG/SHEFFIELD, AR), CACTUS COMMUNICATIONS LLC. (KKAY/WHITE CASTLE, LA), JESSE C. ROSS AND ERNESTINE A. ROSS (WSAO-A/SENATOBIA, MS), and NEW WORLD BROADCASTING COMPANY INC. (KCLF-A/NEW ROADS, LA), and $7,000 (for late filing and unauthorized operation) to JACK W. IVY SR. (WRMG-A/RED BAY, AL), RADIO STATION WSNT INC. (WSNT-F/SANDERSVILLE, GA), NICHOLLS STATE UNIVERSITY (WNSU/THIBODAUX, LA), and MUSCLE SHOALS BROADCASTING INC. (WZZA/TUSCUMBIA, AL). In all cases, the stations' renewal applications were granted along with the proposed fines.
