Congressmen Try Again With Bill Vs. Local Material On Satellite Radio
February 13, 2007 at 8:55 AM (PT)
The "Local Emergency Radio Service Preservation Act of 2007" has been introduced in Congress by Reps. GENE GREEN (D-TX) and CHIP PICKERING (R-MS). The bill, similar to a bill the Congressmen introduced last year and echoing the NAB's criticism of SIRIUS and XM, asks the FCC to start a rulemaking proceeding to consider whether to prevent the satellite companies from offering local material even on a nationally distributed basis.
The bill would also codify the restrictions against using terrestrial repeaters to offer locally-differentiated material.
