Donut and coffee chain TIM HORTONS is suing STANDARD RADIO and Talk CFRB-A/TORONTO host BILL CARROLL as well as GLOBAL TV owner CANWEST GLOBAL COMMUNICATIONS for defamation.
The suit in Superior Court, seeking C$35 million in general and punitive damages from each of the three defendants, alleges that the parties falsely claimed that TIM HORTONS received a multimillion-dollar subsidy from the Canadian government to build a branch of the chain in KANDAHAR, IRAQ to serve Canadian troops. CARROLL commented on the alleged subsidy on his NOVEMBER 1, 2006 CFRB show and again on a GLOBAL TV commentary.
