U.S. HOMELAND SECURITY has barred renowned MEXICAN guitarist RODRIGO SANCHEZ, of the duo RODRIGO Y GABRIELA, from entering the country. This has resulted in the cancellation of and a string of sold-out shows that includes their performance at SOUTH BY SOUTHWEST.
The U.S. EMBASSY in MEXICO CITY cannot approve RODRIGO's P-1 Entertainer Visa until it receives confirmation that he is not an individual with a similar name who is barred from receiving a visa. So far, the issue has delayed the group's return to the country for two weeks and could take upwards of three months.
Since its U.S. release on OCTOBER 3, 2006, "Rodrigo y Gabriela" has shipped over 100,000 units. The band's debut U.S. release was heralded by BILLBOARD MAGAZINE as "One of the best guitar albums in ages; one of the best discs of the year" and heralded by ROLLING STONE as "New Artist To Watch."
