It's now official: GARRY MEIER, the former longtime sidekick to STEVE DAHL and ROE CONN, has been confirmed as the new late-morning host at CBS Talk WCKG (105.9 FREE FM)/CHICAGO. The show will air 8-11a weekdays, with OPIE AND ANTHONY moving back an hour to air live 5-8a. JIM TURANO will serve as contributor to MEIER's show.
MEIER broke up his partnership with DAHL in an acrimonious split in 1993 and later worked alongside ROE CONN for eight years at WLS-A before another bitter breakup in 2004. An appearance by MEIER with DAHL at an AUGUST remote gave rise to talk that the two could work together again in the future, but the hosts will remain separate in the same lineup at FREE FM. STAN LAWRENCE and TERRY ARMOUR, who presently handle 9a-1p on the station, move to 11a-2p, and MATT DAHL (STEVE's son) and BRENDAN GREELEY move to 7-9p. GLENN BECK continues 9p-midnight, followed by "LOVELINE" midnight-2a.
"We are very excited to bring GARRY to WCKG," said SVP/Market Manager ROD ZIMMERMAN. "He is one of a handful of local CHICAGO radio personalities who are truly engaging, entertaining, relevant, and can 'move the needle.' After last year’s reunion with STEVE DAHL at the beach, we knew instantly GARRY would be a perfect fit for FREE FM."
"I'm looking forward to being back on the air and I will be celebrating at JESSIE'S SHORT STOP INN," said MEIER.
And for his part, DAHL said, "I think it’s great that GARRY can end his career here with us at WCKG and not selling STREETWISE (the paper sold by homeless people)."
