Schultz: AAR Cash Knocked Me To Evenings At KTLK
April 6, 2007 at 8:41 AM (PT)
ED SCHULTZ takes his dispute with his LOS ANGELES affiliate, CLEAR CHANNEL Talk KTLK-A, to the LOS ANGELES TIMES, complaining to the paper that a payoff from AIR AMERICA RADIO was responsible for his demotion from airing live in middays to tape delayed in evenings.
"It's not a radio decision," SCHULTZ, whose show is syndicated by JONES RADIO NETWORKS, is quoted as saying to writer SEAN MITCHELL. "It has nothing to do with ratings or sales. To say I'm upset about it is an understatement. AIR AMERICA is screwing things up."
To say I'm upset about it is an understatement.
He added that the station was initially supportive of his move to air his show live 9a-noon PT, but "then AIR AMERICA wrote them a check."
KTLK GM JOHN QUINLAN denies that the move was made for financial considerations, telling the paper that SCHULTZ had "the lowest-rated show on the radio station" 6a-7p and that the move was precipitated by SCHULTZ' 9a-noon move and the station's preference for AIR AMERICA's THOM HARTMANN for that time period.
