Bridge Ratings: Digital Media Growth Projections
April 25, 2007 at 11:38 AM (PT)
BRIDGE RATINGS continues to track media use among terrestrial radio listeners and today has released its latest update.
Among the nuggets in this study:
* Internet radio use is booming. Monthly use will climb to 31% of the U.S. population by the end of 2007 and 38% by the end of 2008.
* The percentage of Internet radio listeners who consume simulcasts of terrestrial stations is also increasing with 25% of those polled having listened to a terrestrial stream in the 30 days prior to the study.
BRIDGE RATINGS Pres./CEO DAVE VAN DYKE said, "In light of these findings, recent news of royalty rate hikes for music-streaming broadcasters couldn’t come at a worse time. In addition to the expanding audience for terrestrial radio in general, AM/FM stations streaming a high composition of new music are among the most listened to on the Internet providing the music industry an ever widening direct channel for exposing new artists. Should these streams disappear, it would be a disservice to both industries and the consumer."
