GAY & LESBIAN ALLIANCE AGAINST DEFAMATION (GLAAD) President NEIL GIULIANO last week praised UNIVISION RADIO for suspending LUIS JIMENEZ's show for one month (NET NEWS 5/4).
"GLAAD applauds UNIVISION RADIO for doing the right thing and taking responsible action against JIMENEZ's vulgar and bigoted comments," GIULIANO said. "We call on all Spanish-language broadcasters to require the same accountability from all their on-air talent."
According to GAYWIRED.com, on MAY 1 JIMENEZ and his co-hosts performed "Las Patas" ("The Dykes"), a song that contained homophobic slurs and ridiculed lesbians. Later on the show the gay character "Chef Pepin" was introduced, and JIMENEZ reportedly said to the character, "Callate pato" ("Shut up, faggot").
