Former HI-FIVE lead singer TONY THOMPSON was found dead outside an EAST WACO, TX apartment complex FRIDAY night (6/1). WACO police said his body was found by officers working security at the apartment complex. Sources ranging from ALLHIPHOP.COM to UPI reported that THOMPSON’s death possibly resulted from a drug overdose. WACO police would only say it was listed as a "questionable death" and that an autopsy has been ordered, reported the WACO TRIBUNE-HERALD.
THOMPSON enjoyed national success with HI-FIVE in the early 1990s with three platinum-selling albums for JIVE RECORDS. Hit songs included "I Like the Way (The Kissing Game)," "I Can’t Wait Another Minute" and "I Just Can’t Handle It."
A statement released on behalf of ZOMBA LABEL GROUP Pres./CEO BARRY WEISS and the JIVE RECORDS staff read, "TONY's musical and vocal talent far exceeded his age in years. His rich vocal tone and artistry were readily apparent even at the young age of 15, when we signed him at JIVE. Above all, he was a good person. Our heart goes out to him and his family."
