Broward County Democrats: WIOD Too Conservative For Hurricane Coverage Contract

Is storm coverage a political issue? Democrats in BROWARD COUNTY, FL are considering ending the county's deal with CLEAR CHANNEL Talk WIOD-A/MIAMI for hurricane information because the station carries RUSH LIMBAUGH.
The SOUTH FLORIDA SUN-SENTINEL reports that the all-Democrat BROWARD COUNTY COMMISSION is objecting to renewing the deal because the station carries LIMBAUGH, SEAN HANNITY, and FOX NEWS. The deal ensures that WIOD, the dominant News/Talk station in the market, carries all hurricane-related news conferences from the county's Emergency operations Center in PLANTATION in their entirety, critical because county emergency managers were in the past concerned that BROWARD (which includes FT. LAUDERDALE) was being ignored in favor of MIAMI-DADE COUNTY information by the MIAMI-based media.
New CLEAR CHANNEL/MIAMI Dir./AM Programming KEN CHARLES told the SUN-SENTINEL, "It's a shame that people would let politics get in the way of saving lives in a hurricane." WIOD's sister station, WINZ-A, is a liberal Talk station and AIR AMERICA RADIO affiliate.
