Reports have the billboards that offended BRITNEY SPEARS (NET NEWS 6/18) coming down in FLORIDA. The billboards had been up for weeks and were part of a promotional ad campaign for the MJ MORNING SHOW on CLEAR CHANNEL Top 40 WFLZ/TAMPA.
WTSP-TV (CHANNEL 10)/TAMPA reports that the billboards featured a picture of a bald SPEARS, along with a photo of MJ and sayings like "Total Nut Jobs," "Shock Therapy" and "Certifiable." SPEARS lawyers sent a letter threatening legal action if the billboards did not come down. So this past week, CLEAR CHANNEL complied. But the decision did not sit well with the popular radio personality.
"Do I feel betrayed? Yeah, I feel betrayed," MJ told CHANNEL 10. "I feel let down. I'm not happy with my company taking it down. I don't think there's any problem with [the billboards]." He said they purchased the picture of SPEARS for the campaign from a website. But since the photo was not purchased from SPEARS representatives, her attorneys say the singer could be entitled to "very substantial damages." In a letter dated JUNE 14, SPEARS' legal team also called the billboards "offensive" and "outrageous in the extreme."
