SIEGEL started out as a radio newscaster after graduating from UCLA, later becoming a writer and entertainment critic, joining CBS O&O WCBS-TV/NEW YORK in 1972 and hosting "JOEL SIEGEL'S NEW YORK" on WCBS-A, then moving to ABC O&O WABC-TV/NEW YORK in the 1976 and later adding duties on "GMA."
ABC NEWS President DAVID WESTIN said, "JOEL was an important part of ABC NEWS, and we will miss him. He was a brilliant reviewer and a great reporter. But much more, he was our dear friend and colleague. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family."
