The FCC has issued a $4,000 fine to RADIO WISE, INC. for public file violations at WNVA-A/NORTON, VA. In addition, the Commission has fined ONE MART CORP. $6,400 for EAS violations at KEVT-A/CORTARO, AZ, which ONE MART formerly owned.
The Commission also dismissed VIRGIL HOWARD's challenge to the license renewal of the UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON's noncommercial KUOW/SEATTLE. HOWARD had accused the station of conducting "clandestine focus groups" for the SEATTLE monorail project and other issues by doing call-in talk shows on the topics and then selling the "research." The Commission decided that HOWARD's evidence was insufficient to support the allegations and that his evidence "consists of little more than suspicions and sinister interpretations of otherwise neutral facts, as well as logical leaps to unsupported conclusions."
