NAB Files Comments On Ownership Diversity
October 2, 2007 at 7:07 AM (PT)
The NAB has filed its comments in the FCC's ownership diversity docket, reiterating its support for programs promoting minority and female media ownership and noting the diversity-related activities of the NAB with the NAB EDUCATION FOUNDATION and BROADCAST EDUCATION ASSOCIATION.
The filing also states the NAB's support for a return to the concept of tax incentives to promote minority ownership, and urges that the Commission "avoid unwarranted and unproven assumptions that modernizing the local broadcast ownership rules will result in fewer opportunities for women and minorities. Instead, the FCC should implement policies that ensure a financially viable radio and television industry, particularly in light of growing competition from a number of new sources. Initiatives to promote diversity in broadcasting would be moot in an environment where radio and television stations are held back from effectively competing in an ever-expanding digital media marketplace."
