SIRIUS SATELLITE RADIO HOWARD 101 host BUBBA THE LOVE SPONGE is receiving plaudits from the CHARLOTTE COUNTY, FL Sheriff's Office for BUBBA and his staff's work talking to a suicidal caller and helping track down and help the man.
On WEDNESDAY's show, a man called threatening suicide, using a fake name and masked voice to avoid detection. He also said that he had a gun and had sent his teen daughter away from his home. While engineer DAVID RICE called police and attempted in vain to trace the call, BUBBA and sidekicks BRENT HATLEY and SPICEBOY calmed the man down, got his real name and number off the air, and alerted the authorities, who rushed to the man's home.
In an e-mail to the show, an officer said, "The DJs did an outstanding job of talking to the gentleman and keeping him calm. I can't go into details about the outcome of the call due to confidentiality concerns, but he is safe and sound."
