FCC Shooting For Dec. 18 Wrap-up Of Ownership Rules Review

FCC Commissioners said WEDNESDAY that the FCC plans to wrap up its media ownership rules review by mid-DECEMBER, according to BROADCASTING AND CABLE magazine.
Sen. BYRON DORGAN (D-ND) told a Senate Commerce Committee hearing that Commissioner ROBERT MCDOWELL had set the date for completing the study at DECEMBER 18th, and Commissioner JONATHAN ADELSTEIN confirmed to the committee that DECEMBER 18th was indeed the date set by Chairman KEVIN MARTIN.
DORGAN indicated unhappiness with the plan, suggesting that the Commission cannot do a complete review and rule changes by that date; DORGAN and committee Chairman DANIEL INOUYE (D-HI) agreed to call a hearing on the FCC's plans before the Commission tries to complete its review.
