SIMMONS Sports KZNS-A (1280 THE ZONE)/SALT LAKE CITY has been told to stop promoting its UTAH JAZZ basketball pre- and post-games shows by the NBA, reports the SALT LAKE TRIBUNE. THE ZONE does not hold official rights to the JAZZ' games or "official station" marketing rights, which are held by crosstown CITADEL Sports KFNZ-A (1320 KFAN), Sports KJQS-A (ESPN RADIO 1230), and AC KBEE (B 98.7), and the league has policies about the use of team names, ticket giveaways and what live feeds can be used by non-"official" stations. Team President RANDY RIGBY says that "it's not a major issue. It's protection of name rights."
Several Sports stations nationwide do "unofficial" sports pre- and post-game shows without holding the actual game broadcast or marketing rights, usually with names that refer to the sport or team in generic fashion.
