McLain Rumor Hits Detroit Paper

DETROIT NEWS columnist NEAL RUBIN throws some fuel on the speculative fire that former DETROIT TIGERS pitcher and radio talk host DENNY MCLAIN could be returning to the local airwaves if CBS Talk WXYT-A-F (97.1 THE TICKET)/DETROIT can't sign morning stars JEFF DEMINSKI and BILL DOYLE to a new contract. D&D survived the format flip of the FM side from Talk to Sports, but despite their names being featured in the station's new logo, but they remain unsigned and their contracts expire at the end of the year.
RUBIN asked MCLAIN, whose radio career was interrupted by a felony conviction and prison stretch, if he might be a replacement for D&D; he said he's been hearing the same rumor, but not from anyone who could actually hire him, musing that "I suspect it's the same three people saying it over and over."
As for the incumbents, "Honest to God, we just don't know," DEMINSKI said early FRIDAY, joking that if MCLAIN called in within 10 minutes, he would step aside and give the job to MCLAIN.
