710 ESPN/L.A. Makes Changes

ALL ACCESS has confirmed that ESPN Sports KSPN-A/LOS ANGELES afternoon "THE BIG SHOW WITH MASON AND IRELAND" co-host JOHN IRELAND has exited the station, as his contract is not picked up for another term. In addition, midday host KEVIN KILEY has left the station to return to his VIRGINIA home.
On KILEY, PD LARRY GIFFORD tells ALL ACCESS that the host "is a tremendous talent. We are going to miss him, his passion and dedication to the station. He came to L.A. to work with D'MARCO FARR and that didn't work out. We offered him a new show and declined it so he can return home to the East Coast to be with his family. If I were programming a station on the East Coast -- my first call this morning would be to KEVIN." KILEY came off the air last week; APD BRIAN LONG and reporter/host DAVE DENHOLM filled in after KILEY's departure.
IRELAND says on his KCBS-TV (CBS 2)/KCAL-TV (K-CAL 9) blog that the reason for his exit is "that the radio station is changing philosophy. While we had a successful sports show, they want to try and get ratings from more than just sports fans. The guys they're bringing in come from an entertainment background, whereas we came straight from sports.... Overall, I had a lot of fun there over the last four years, which is a good run in radio these days."
IRELAND's on-air partner STEVE MASON is ticketed for KILEY's former midday slot, while former ADAM CAROLLA SHOW sidekick DAVE DAMASHEK takes over afternoons and BRIAN LONG gets a new local show 7-10p weeknights. The station is also adding a 10-11p "710 ESPN SPORTSCENTER PRESENTS" nightly wrapup show with a panel of contributors including DAVE DENHOLM, BETO DURAN, DAVE JOSEPH, STEVE BISHEFF, MIKE MORALES and MARK THOMASON.
