BUBBA THE LOVE SPONGE's return to terrestrial radio on COX Classic Rock WHPT (102.5 THE BONE)/TAMPA and Classic Rock WFYV (ROCK 105)/JACKSONVILLE featured the host taking the opportunity of his big comeback to rip into TODD "M.J. KELLI" SCHNITT, his crosstown TAMPA competition on CLEAR CHANNEL Top 40 WFLZ, and to take a well-wishing call from his SIRIUS SATELLITE RADIO boss HOWARD STERN.
BUBBA, who also bantered on-air with CBS Top 40/Rhythmic WLLD morning man ORLANDO, tore into SCHNITT for, among other things, pushing former "MJ AND BJ" co-host BJ HARRIS aside to take over the show on a solo basis. Camera crews from TAMPA's network affiliates and BAY NEWS 9 were on hand to record the action.
STERN, on his own show and BUBBA's, marveled at BUBBA doing two shows a day and joked that by having STERN as a guest, BUBBA is "fired already." BUBBA told him that the contract he was offered by SIRIUS was unfair and he was "told not to sign it, because it was one of the most one-way things I've ever seen," but he signed it out of loyalty to STERN and the listeners, and did the COX deal to make a living, to which STERN said, "I hate like hell that he has to work two jobs."
