Shocker! After 11 years at CLEAR CHANNEL AC WLTW (106.7 LITE FM)/NEW YORK, PD JIM RYAN has decided to leave his day-to-day WLTW programming responsibilities to start his own content consultancy. This announcement comes on the 24th anniversary of the station. Effective MAY 1st, veteran AC programmer CHRIS CONLEY, currently McVAY MEDIA's VP/AC Programming, will take over the PD chair at WLTW.
RYAN will also be leaving his national responsibilities as CC's SVP/AC Programming, but will remain with the company through the end of MAY, 2008 during the transition. He will continue to work with 106.7 as a programming consultant.
Chris Conley and Jim Ryan are widely recognized as the foremost AC programmers in the world
During RYAN's historic run, when he started at WLTW in the SUMMER of 1996, the station ranked fourth 12+. Since FALL 1996, WLTW has consistently ranked #1 in the market.
CLEAR CHANNEL/NEW YORK SVP/Programming TOM POLEMAN stated: "CHRIS CONLEY and JIM RYAN are widely recognized as the foremost AC programmers in the world. CHRIS has a tremendous amount of experience and knowledge in AC research, programming and marketing that will pay great dividends in his new role. No one is better suited than CHRIS to take the reigns of the legendary WLTW. Together, CHRIS and JIM make the ultimate AC programming dream team."
RYAN noted: "Since I joined WLTW in 1996, we've been #1 in 38 Arbitrons, and that doesn't even include our #1 showing in the current PPM. It has been an honor for me to have been a part of this brand and its phenomenal success. I look forward to taking everything I've learned in NEW YORK, as well as working with the other CLEAR CHANNEL AC stations, and starting a new chapter in my career."
POLEMAN added: "JIM RYAN's tenure as WLTW's Program Director is nothing short of remarkable. He took an average station and made it legendary. He's unquestionably one of the best programmers I've ever had the pleasure to work with. We're fortunate to have him continue as a consultant."
CONLEY, who had an 11-year run of top-rated books at WBEB (B101)/PHILADELPHIA before joining McVAY MEDIA, said, "It's funny that we are repeating history. I succeeded JIM in PHILADELPHIA 11 years ago, and here we go again. This time the task won't be as monumental as I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with him going forward."
WILLIAMS stated: "JIM RYAN's contributions to WLTW and CLEAR CHANNEL have been extraordinary, and I am excited for him as he starts the newest chapter in his career. CHRIS CONLEY is the ideal successor, and the combination of CHRIS and JIM assures a bright future for WLTW."
