Retired Houston Engineer O.B. 'Papaw' Johnson Dies

Condolences to family and friends of longtime TEXAS radio engineer O.B. "PAPAW" JOHNSON, who died SUNDAY at 87 in SUGAR LAND, TX according to the HOUSTON CHRONICLE.
JOHNSON worked for 40 years in HOUSTON radio at the old KTHT-A (now KBME-A) and KPRC-A. He also built one of the earliest FMs in the state, KOPY, and supervised KTHT's live remote coverge of the 1947 TEXAS CITY disaster and helped wire the ASTRODOME for broadcasting in 1965. After leaving radio, he entered horticulture with an emphasis on pecan farming.
