FCC OKs Sale Of WEHM Over Competitors' Challenges

The FCC has rejected challenges by MAIN STREET BROADCASTING CO. and JARAD BROADCASTING CO. against the sale of AAA WEHM/SOUTHAMPTON, NY from PECONIC BAY BROADCASTING CORP. to AAA ENTERTAINMENT.
The petitioners had claimed that AAA had included too many stations in defining the relevant market for competition purposes, with AAA claiming 20 stations in the area and the petitioners saying only 12 are valid, which would have reduced the number of stations AAA could own and would block the sale of WEHM. The Commission staff reduced the number to 17, but that number still permitted the sale.
