GAP WEST Pres. SAMUEL "SKIP" WELLER has been appointed Managing Director at GAP BROADCASTING GROUP, the parent company of GAPWEST and its sister company, GAP BROADCASTING, LLC. Succeeding him as President of GAPWEST is ERIK HELLUM, who will also join the company’s Board of Directors. Each appointment is effective MAY 5th.
In his new role, WELLER will help develop and implement strategic initiatives. "SKIP will leverage his extensive contacts and experience to identify and execute complementary acquisitions as well as evaluate signal re-engineering opportunities to create value," said OAKTREE CAPITAL MANAGEMENT SVP ANDREW SALTER.
HELLUM most recently worked for BONNEVILLE INTERNATIONAL as VP/Market Manager in PHOENIX. Before that, he was VP/GM for BONNEVILLE’s WIL and WRTH/ST. LOUIS; he has also held senior sales positions with CLEAR CHANNEL Group Sales and AMFM.
"ERIK is a talented and dynamic leader with a terrific track record, and I'm thrilled that he’s joining GAPWEST as President," SALTER said. "ERIK’s proven ability to drive strong ratings and revenue performance via creative methodologies, including innovative digital applications, aligns very well with GAPWEST’s philosophy and culture. I'm excited to have ERIK build upon the great job SKIP has already done in leading GAPWEST through its next stage of growth."
"Contrary to what many might think, this is a phenomenal time to be in the radio business," HELLUM said. "The value proposition of radio is simple but powerful -- hire the best people, build the best products, form strong bonds with your local community, embrace new forms of distribution, and monetize your cross-platform offering by delivering results for advertisers. I'm excited to join GAPWEST and its exceptionally dedicated employees in continuing to grow this great company."
