NY Times Posts Q1 Loss

The NEW YORK TIMES CO. posted a loss of $335,000 in first quarter 2008, plummeting from a $23.9 million profit in the same quarter last year. The largest hit came from a 10.6% drop in newspaper advertising. The company's operating profit excluding a one-time asset write-down charge, amortization, and interest fell from $98.9 million to $66.4 million year-to-year.
MARCH total company revenue from continuing operations decreased 6.4% compared with the same month a year ago.
