San Francisco: KSOL Dominates; KISQ, KBLX Score Share Gains
UNIVISION Regional Mexican KSOL posts a clean sweep in SAN FRANCISCO this book -- and not unlike DALLAS or PHOENIX, it really wasn't very close. KSOL beat the #2 station by 78% 18-34, 86% 18-49, and 48% 25-54 -- an amazing feat in such a competitive market such as SAN FRANCISCO.
25-54: KSOL actually took the top spot away from ENTERCOM AC KOIT -- which drops from the holiday book to a still solid 2nd. CUMULUS AAA KFOG remains 3rd and its status quo with CITADEL Talk KGO in 4th. Two stations score nice share gains in the 18-49 and 25-54 cells: CLEAR CHANNEL Rhythmic AC KISQ climbs from 10th to 5th, with INNER CITY Urban AC KBLX leaping from 11th to 6th. CLEAR CHANNEL Urban KMEL inches up from 8th to 7th. The top CBS/BAY AREA facility is news KCBS-A, which moves from 11th to 8th. CLEAR CHANNEL Hot AC KIOI (Star 101.3) dips from 5th to 9th, where they are tied with sister Smooth Jazz KKSF (up from 15th), and CUMULUS Rock KSAN.
UNIVISION Spanish Adult Hits KBRG (RECUERDO) and CUMULUS Sports KNBR tie for 12th. A rough book for SBS Regional Mexican KRZZ (LA RAZA), which falters from 6th to 14th (rival KSOL has more than triple the 25-54 shares). There's a four way tie for 15th with ENTERCOM Country KBWF, ENTERCOM Classical KDFC, CBS Hot AC KLLC, and CLEAR CHANNEL Rhythmic KYLD. NEXTMEDIA AC KBAY and CITADEL Talk KSFO tie for 19th place.
CBS is still having challenges with a few of their properties. Rhythmic AC KMVQ (MOVIN' 99-7) slips to 22nd 25-54. Alternative KITS slides from 18th to 24th. However, there is some slight growth for Classic Hits as KFRC climbs from 30th to 25th.
18-49: KSOL absolutely ran away with this cell. KOIT remains in second place, while KMEL (who tied with KOIT in the FALL) drops to 3rd. A nice leap for KYLD, which jumps from 7th to 4th, ahead of KFOG, which moves from 6th to 5th. KISQ leaps from 9th to 6th and KSAN from 8th to 7th -- as CLEAR CHANNEL and CUMULUS own five of the top seven stations 18-49. KRZZ drops from 4th to 8th, KBLX surges from 14th to 9th, while KGO, KIOI, and KBRG all tie for 10th place.
KLLC and KVVF tie for 13th place while KNBR slips from 12th to 15th. KBWF and KMVQ tie for 16th (both up from 17th in the FALL). KCBS and CLEAR CHANNEL Mexican Oldies KSJO (LA PRECIOSA) tie for 19th with KBAY.
18-34: KSOL scores an easy win and has double digits. KMEL holds in 2nd, while sister KYLD leaps from 4th to 3rd. KOIT moves up to 4th, with KRZZ sliding from 3rd to 5th. KSOL has almost triple the 18-34 shares of KRZZ. UNIVISION Latin Urban KVVF inches up to 6th, KBRG is 7th, with KITS and KBWF ranking 8th and 9th. KIOI, KSJO, and KSAN all tie for 10th.
Portland: Regional Mexican KRYP Soars To #1 18-34, 18-49
SALEM Regional Mexican KRYP has made it to the top spot in PORTLAND in just one year. The station ranks #1 with adults 18-34 and 18-49 and also goes top 5 25-54. ENTERCOM also some nice 25-54 success. Here's a look inside PORTLAND:25-54: ENTERCOM Classic Rock KGON regains the top spot. CBS AAA KINK climbs from 3rd to 2nd, moving past CLEAR CHANNEL AC KKCW (which was #1 thanks to holiday music in the FALL). KKCW and CBS Rock KUFO tied for 3rd place. KRYP vaults from 10th to 5th, placing them in a tie with ENTERCOM Adult Hits KYCH (CHARLIE FM). ENTERCOM Hot AC sister KRSK moves from 13th to 7th, with SALEM Christian AC KFIS rising from 12th to 8th, tying them with CBS Country KUPL. CLEAR CHANNEL News/Talk KEX drops from 5th to 12th. ENTERCOM Alternative is off from 8th to 13th. ROSE CITY News/Talk KXL holds in 14th, placing it just ahead of CBS Classic Hits KLTH, which moves from 11th to 15th. ENTERCOM Sports KFXX drops from 15th to 16th. A tie between CLEAR CHANNEL Top 40 KKRZ (Z100) and CBS Rhythmic AC KVMX (MOVIN') for 17th, and the final book for ROSE CITY Rhythmic KXJM on 95.5 ranks 19th. PAMPLIN News/Talk KPAM and CLEAR CHANNEL Classic Hits KQOL tie for 20th. Note that CBS has since bought the intellectual property of KXJM to replace "MOVIN'" on 107.5. KXJM has flipped to Sports.
18-49: KRYP makes the leap to #1 -- and by a pretty wide margin. KGON slides from 1st to 2nd, but is #1 English. KUFO holds in 3rd. A stellar 18-49 book for KRSK, who soars from 10th to 4th. KINK moves from 8th to 5th. KXJM's final book on 95.5 sees them leap from 10th to 6th. KKCW slips from 1st to 7th post holiday. KNRK and KYCH tie for 8th, with KFIS and Z100 tied for 10th.
The Country battle is a dead heat -- and it looks like shares were a little bit low for the format as both KUPL and KWJJ tie for 12th (KUPL down from 9th and KWJJ from 4th). KPOJ moves from 18th to 14th, KEX from 13th to 15th. KFXX, KLTH, and KXL tie for 16th. KVMX slides from 16th to 19th, with KQOL 20th.
18-34: KRYP wins running away and with double digits. KXJM and KUFO swap spots with Jammin' now #2. Z100 rises from 5th to 4th and KRSK moves from 10th to 5th. KNRK, KGON, KKCW, KWJJ, and KFIS round out the top 10.
