Noncommercial Classical KBPS/PORTLAND, OR names noncommercial Classical KMFA/AUSTIN GM/PD JACK ALLEN as its new CEO. ALLEN, who has also worked as both executive and host at MINNESOTA PUBLIC RADIO, is taking over from interim President/CEO MAYNARD ORME.
"JACK has both deep experience in classical music radio and the entrepreneurial spirit needed to take All Classical KBPS to the next stage," said JOHNATHAN E. MANSFIELD, attorney and Chair of KBPS' board. "Having JACK at the head of KBPS is great news for the entire arts community in OREGON and Southwest WASHINGTON, and for our listeners world-wide on the Web."
"I am thrilled to be chosen to lead this wonderful and rare all-classical station at this auspicious moment in time," added ALLEN. "Stations like KBPS are competing in a complex and rapidly evolving media environment where many choices confront the listener. It is clear to me that KBPS in particular is endowed with a great staff, vibrant board and reaching a very significant regional audience with excellent content. KBPS is strong and well-positioned to be a leader on the national and international classical music stage. Perhaps a veteran cab driver whom I recently met on a trip to the City of Roses said it best, 'PORTLAND is classical music!' I would have to agree and maybe even add -- KBPS is PORTLAND!"
