JOHN BROWN UNIVERSITY Christian AC KLRC/SILOAM SPRINGS, AR has partnered with the SAMARITAN COMMUNITY CENTER in ROGERS, AR, for the "KLRC Cares: Back 2 School" project, which will provide over 1,500 school-supply filled backpacks for needy northwest ARKANSAS children.
It is estimated that 1 out of every 4 children in ARKANSAS lives in poverty. Over 30,000 children are currently enrolled in the free/reduced school lunch program in northwest ARKANSAS alone.
"Times are tough. Families are having to make hard choices and the price of a backpack and all of the things children need to start school is sometimes more than the budget can handle. Our goal is to help students be able to start school with the supplies they need to have a good year," said KLRC Promotions Director and morning show co-host JEN RYAN.
The SAMARITAN COMMUNITY CENTER currently has 1,500 backpacks to be filled with the supplies donated by KLRC listeners. The filled backpacks will be distributed at the community center on AUGUST 5th and 6th.
