DAN HOARD is returning to the UNIVERSITY OF CINCINNATI to handle play-by-play of football and men's basketball for his 10th season with the BEARCATS. HOARD, who left FOX affiliate WXIX-TV (FOX 19)/CINCINNATI two years ago to become the play-by-play announcer for PAWTUCKET RED SOX minor league baseball, will be back as the "Voice of the BEARCATS" at the conclusion of the PAWSOX' season.
The first UC football broadcast is set for AUGUST 28th against EASTERN KENTUCKY. HOARD will also host the school's weekly coaches' shows and write a column for gobearcats.com. The 'CATS air on CLEAR CHANNEL Talk WLW-A/CINCINNATI under a deal with rightsholder ISP SPORTS.
"It is my joy and privilege to be the 'Radio Voice of the BEARCATS' and there’s nothing more enjoyable as a broadcaster than describing the action for the team you root for," said HOARD, who was the BEARCATS' TV announcer in 1996-2000 and radio voice in 1996 and in 2000 to the present. "I am extremely grateful to Dir./Athletics MIKE THOMAS, Sr. Assoc. Dir./Athletics MIKE WADDELL, CLEAR CHANNEL's Pres./Market Manager CHUCK FREDRICK, and Dir./AM Operations DARRYL PARKS for the opportunity to continue broadcasting UC football and basketball, and hope to do so for many years to come.
"In BRIAN KELLY and MICK CRONIN, UC has two of the best coaches in the country, and I look forward to broadcasting the words, 'The BEARCATS are BIG EAST champions,' in the near future."
"DAN HOARD is the finest broadcaster in the BIG EAST, bar none," said UC Dir./Athletics MIKE THOMAS. "His enthusiasm for UNIV. OF CINCINNATI sports is contagious and we are thrilled to have him back on the air. One of the great things about our broadcasts is that we are on a fantastic station in WLW and the story is being told by long-time BEARCATS in DAN, JIM KELLY and CHUCK MACHOCK, plus a pair of outstanding young broadcast pros in (sideline reporter) TOM GELEHRTER and (studio host and WCKY-A (1530 HOMER, THE SPORTS ANIMAL) host) MO EGGER. Having these men as part of our athletics program is essential as we look to maintain our winning broadcast team, the same way we expect continuity from our sporting teams.”
FREDRICK added, "700 WLW is proud of our long-term association with the UNIV. OF CINCINNATI and are very proud of the excellent team of broadcast professionals that we have on these games. This partnership has been a strong one for many years and will continue to be so as Coaches CRONIN and KELLY, and the leadership of AD MIKE THOMAS push UC to the top of the BIG EAST."
PARKS said, "700 WLW will continue having DAN as one of the great personalities on the station. The past eight years, DAN's voice, talent and expertise in BEARCATS sports have made him a star."
