Ferrall Breaks Trade News To Artest

RON ARTEST found out about his trade by the SACRAMENTO KINGS to the HOUSTON ROCKETS in an unusual way: The news was sprung on him by SIRIUS SATELLITE RADIO HOWARD 101 sports talker SCOTT FERRALL when ARTEST called to wish the host a happy birthday. FERRALL asked ARTEST about the trade at the very beginning of the call TUESDAY night, and ARTEST responded with surprise, saying he'd turned off his cell phone that evening and turned it on only to call into FERRALL's show.
FERRALL appeared on HOWARD STERN's show THURSDAY morning to talk about breaking the trade news to the controversial NBA star. ARTEST, whose infamy peaked with his role in the NOVEMBER 19, 2004 brawl at an INDIANA PACERS-DETROIT PISTONS game that included trading punches with fans, was traded to HOUSTON for BOBBY JACKSON, DONTE GREENE, a 2009 first-round draft pick, and cash, with the official closing of the deal delayed to AUGUST 14 to comply with NBA rules regarding GREENE's contract signing. He averaged 20.5 points and 5.8 rebounds per game last season.
