CRTC OKs CKAJ Power Boost

The CRTC has approver a power boost for RADIO COMMUNAUTAIRE DU SAGUENAY INC. French community station CKAJ/SAGUENAY, QC. The station will increase from 2,693 watts to 14,164 watts at a new transmitter location.
The agency also approved changes in BEAR CREEK BROADCASTING Hot AC CIKT (Q99)/GRANDE PRAIRIE, AB's Canadian talent development plans, replacing support for two initiatives with two new proposals, "PEACE COUNTRY IDOL" and "TELUS COUNTRY FEVER."
SALMO FM RADIO SOCIETY received CRTC approval for a new low power developmental community FM in SALMO, BC. The station will use 92.1 FM with 5 watts.
But the Commission denied RICK SARGENT's application to add a transmitter for community/tourist information CJFB/BOLTON, ON at CALEDON, ON. SARGENT proposed to turn low power tourist information CFGM/CALEDON into a repeater for CJFB.
In other CRTC actions, the Commission granted COCHRANE POLAR BEAR CLUB a license for a new low-power developmental community FM with 5 watts at 104.7 FM in COCHRANE, ON; granted COLUMBIA BASIN ALLIANCE FOR LITERACY a low-power Type B community FM with 1.6 watts at 107.1 in NAKUSP, BC, replacing its very-low-power developmental FM; granted CHASE AND DISTRICT COMMUNITY RADIO SOCIETY a low-power Type B community FM with 19.7 watts at 103.5 FM in CHASE, BC to replace the applicant's current developmental FM CFCH; approved FRANK ROGERS' bid for a low-power commercial Country FM with 50 watts on 105.1 FM in BEETON-TOTTENHAM, ON; and denied EVANOV COMMUNICATIONS' application for an FM at 104.9 in SHELBURNE, ON.
