The U.K.'s GLOBAL RADIO has told the OFFICE OF FAIR TRADING that it will spin off five MIDLANDS stations to ease competition concerns over its purchase of GCAP MEDIA. The company will sell its AC HEART 106 in the EAST MIDLANDS and Top 40 BRMB/BIRMINGHAM, AC BEACON RADIO/WOLVERHAMPTON, AC MERCIA/COVENTRY, and AC WYVERN FM/HEREFORDSHIRE-WORCESTERSHIRE in BIRMINGHAM and the WEST MIDLANDS to satisfy the OFT's desire to restore competition to pre-merger levels. GLOBAL would retain AC HEART FM and Urban/Dance GALAXY FM in the WEST MIDLANDS.
The OFT also cleared the merger of anti-competitive concerns in the LONDON market, where the combined company will own AC HEART, Talk LBC 97.3, News LBC NEWS 1152, Top 40 CAPITAL, Alternative XFM, and Urban CHOICE FM.
