Monday Morning Ratings Replay: From Minneapolis To D.C.

It's MONDAY, so that must mean ALL ACCESS has once again asked RADIOCRUNCH Pres. ANTHONY ACAMPORA to take a look at some more major-market SPRING book results. This set is from MINNEAPOLIS to WASHINGTON, D.C. (in alphabetical order) uncovers target demos in some major markets.
Minneapolis: KDWB Takes 18-34; KQRS Still Solid 18-49, 25-54
CLEAR CHANNEL Top 40 KDWB took over the top spot in the TWIN CITIES 18-34, but it was legendary CITADEL Classic Rock KQRS that was again the leader 18-49 and 25-54.
25-54: KQRS remained on top with CLEAR CHANNEL Country KEEY holding in 2nd. HUBBARD Hot AC KSTP (KS95) remained in 3rd, tied by CLEAR CHANNEL AAA KTCZ. CITADEL watched Active Rock vault from 10th to 5th. KDWB moved from 8th to 6th, with CBS Adult Hits KZJK 7th and CLEAR CHANNEL Sports KFAN leaping from 11th to 8th. CLEAR CHANNEL Classic Hits KQQL and HUBBARD News/Talk KSTP-A tied with CBS AC WLTE to round out the top 10. CLEAR CHANNEL FM Talker KTLK rose to 12th, tied with heritage CBS AM News/Talk WCCO. NORTHERN LIGHTS Rhythmic KTTB slipped from 5th to 14th, although back in line with where they usually perform. HUBBARD Talk WFMP finished 15th.
18-49: KQRS and KEEY remained in the top 2 -- with KDWB climbing from 4th to 3rd. KS95 leapt from 6th to 4th, with KXXR remaining in 5th. KTCZ jumped from 8th to 6th, moving past KZJK, which remained 7th. KTTB dipped from 3rd to 8th, while KFAN was top 10 after moving 11th to 9th. WLTE slid back to 10th. KSTP-A, KQQL, KTLK, WCCO, and WFMP roundws out the top 15.
18-34: KDWB regained the #1 position from KTTB -- which actually slid all the way to 4th. KQRS jumped from 5th to 2nd, KXXR remained in 3rd. KTTB and KEEY were tied for 4th.
Phoenix: KUPD Sweeps Through The Desert; KOOL Rebounds; CBS Rhythmic, Country Victor
SANDUSKY Active Rock KUPD took the top spot across Adults 18-34, 18-49, and 25-54 in the SPRING book -- finishing well ahead of all rock competition. KUPD beat RIVIERA Alternative rival KEDJ by 256% 18-34, 225% 18-49 and 268% 25-54 -- and even beat its closest rock genre competitor (sister Classic Rock KSLX) by 45% 25-54. Meanwhile, CBS Classic Hits KOOL rebounded nicely from a few off books and CBS also saw Rhythmic KZON and Country KMLE win their highly competitive format battles.
25-54: KUPD soared from 7th to 1st, which was about 72% above the previous four book average, so the book was abnormally high. UNIVISION saw Spanish Adult Hits KQMR (RECUERDO) leap from 6th to 2nd. CLEAR CHANNEL Hot AC KMXP dipped from 2nd to 3rd, tying them with KOOL -- which surged all the way from 16th place -- nearly doubling their WINTER share. UNIVISION Regional Mexican KHOT slid from 1st to 5th, tying them with KSLX. SANDUSKY also saw Rock KDKB continue a steady climb into 7th place (up from 9th), giving the company three of the top seven 25-54. CLEAR CHANNEL AC KESZ dropped from 2nd to 8th, tying them with BONNEVILLE Adult Hits KPKX. CBS Country KMLE was 10th -- and pulled out the format crown. CLEAR CHANNEL saw Top 40 KZZP leap from 15th to 11th, ahead of sister Smooth Jazz KYOT -- down from 9th to 12th. An off book for CLEAR CHANNEL Country KNIX, which faltered from 4th to 13th and sister News/Talk KFYI dipped from 4th to 14th. BONNEVILLE Sports KTAR-AM and sister News/Talk KTAR-FM tied for 15th.
18-49: KUPD moved from 2nd to 1st, with KZZP vaulting from 9th to 2nd. KHOT moved back from 1st to 3rd as sister KQMR leapt from 6th to 4th. KMXP slid back from 4th to 5th. KSLX surged from 14th to 6th, while KESZ and KMLE tied for 7th. CBS saw a huge jump from Rhythmic KZON, which leapt from 17th to 9th, just ahead of KPKX. The shares were ever so tight 18-49, with only a few tenths separating 9th from 14th. KDKB, KOOL, and ENTRAVISION Regional Mexican KLNZ. RIVIERA Rhythmic KKFR moved from 15th to 14th. The biggest drop went to KNIX, which slid from 3rd to 15th.
18-34: KUPD won here by a landslide. KZZP climbed from 4th to 2nd, with former champ KHOT now 3rd. KZON surged from 9th to 4th with KQMR 5th and KLNZ 6th. KMXP dipped from 6th to 7th, with KKFR holding in 8th. SUN CITY Spanish Contemporary was back in the top 10 at #9. KESZ rounded out the top 10.
Pittsburgh: Clear Channel Huge; WLTJ Rebounds Against WSSH
CLEAR CHANNEL continued to have a trio of powerhouses in PITTSBURGH. Classic Rock WDVE was once again hugely dominant 18-49 and 25-54, and still ranked 2nd 18-34. Top 40 WKST was #1 18-34 and Alternative WXDX was still solid across all three.
25-54: No surprise as WDVE remained basically uncontested 25-54. They beat the next-closest station by more than double (124% to be exact) -- and that happened to be sister Talk WPGB (moving from 5th to 2nd). STEEL CITY Adult Hits WRRK (BOB-FM) dipped from 2nd to 3rd, with CBS Country WDSY now 4th. WXDX moved up nicely from 9th to 5th. WKST also leapt from a tie for 9th to 6th. CBS Hot AC WZPT moved from 8th to 7th. The AC race just got interesting as STEEL CITY's relaunched WLTJ moves from 13th to 8th, tying RENDA rival WSHH, which slid from 6th. CLEAR CHANNEL Classic Hits WWSW dipped from 4th to 10th. SHERIDAN Urban WAMO fell out of the top 10 to 11th. CBS Top WBZW (B94) was 12th, but still got beat by WKST by 62%. CBS News/Talk KDKA dropped from 11th to 13th; ESPN Sports WEAE was 14th, and two of the KEYMARKET "Froggy" stations, WOGF and WOGI, tied for 15th.
18-49: WDVE won here by 110% over sister WKST. WRRK climbed from 6th to 3rd, moving past WXDX, which was 4th. WDSY remained in 5th place, ahead of WPGB, which rose from 7th to 6th. WAMO slid from 4th to 7th, with WZPT and B94 both growing in share to grab 8th and 9th, respectively. WLTJ moved from 13th to 10th and moved past WSHH, which dropped from 9th to 11th. WWSW, WEAE, WOGI and KDKA round out the top 15.
18-34: WKST won for a second straight book. Ironically, the station has been stronger since the relaunch of B94. WDVE and WKST were 2nd and 3rd respectively. WAMO held in 4th place, with B94 climbing into the top 5. WRRK, WPGB, WDSY, WZPT, and WLTJ rounded out the top 10.
San Diego: KLNV, KHTS Strong; KMYI, KYGO, Z90, KBZT Take Format Crowns
The always competitive and entertaining SAN DIEGO market saw CLEAR CHANNEL Top 40 KHTS (CHANNEL 93-3) tie for the #1 position 18-34 and 18-49 with UNIVISION Regional Mexican KLNV (La Nueva). Some heated battles in Hot AC, Country, and Rhythmic weren't so close, and the tight Alternative battle went to KBZT.
25-54: KLNV leapt from 5th to 1st 25-54 (and tied with KHTS 18-34 and 18-49) getting a sweep in a rare way. CLEAR CHANNEL Hot AC KMYI (Star 94-1) surged from 6th to 2nd, beating CBS rival KSCF (Sophie) by 212% 25-54, 175% 18-49, and 167% 18-34. KMYI tied with CBS AC KYXY, which remained a powerhouse. CLEAR CHANNEL Classic Rock KGB and KHTS tied for 4th (KHTS up from 11th). In a sea of bad SPRING results for the format, LINCOLN FINANCIAL Smooth AC KIFM moved from 8th to 6th. UNIVISION Spanish Adult Hits KLQV (RECUERDO) moved from 6th to 7th. A nice rebound for MIDWEST TV Adult Hits KFMB (JACK-FM), which surged from 14th to 8th. LINCOLN FINANCIAL Country KSON dipped from 4th to 9th, but still beat CLEAR CHANNEL rival KUSS by 163% 25-54 and 100% 18-49. Rounding out the top 10 was FINEST CITY Rhythmic AC XHRM, which fell all the way from 2nd to 10th. CLEAR CHANNEL Active Rock KIOZ was 11th, while LINCOLN FINANCIAL Alternative KBZT dropped from 9th to 12th, tied with CLEAR CHANNEL News/Talk KOGO. UNI RADIO Regional Mexican XHTY slid to 14th, with FINEST CITY Rhythmic XHTZ (Z90) in 15th. Z90 topped MEC Rhythmic rival XMOR by 175% 25-54, 131% 18-49, and even 129% in their 18-34 target. FINEST CITY Alternative XTRA-FM (91X) slid from 15th to 16th. BROADCAST OF THE AMERICAS Sports XPRS was 17th. KSCF moved into 18th place, tied with KUSS. MIDWEST TV Talk KFMB-AM and COMPASS AAA KPRI tied for 20th.
18-49: KHTS and KLNV tied for 1st. KIOZ moved back from 1st to 3rd, but was still the Rock leader. KMYI and KYXY tied for 4th. KLQV leapt from 9th to 6th, with KSON down from 5th to 7th. XHRM dipped from 4th to 8th, KGB dipping from 8th to 9th, with Z90 moving into the top 10. KBZT slid out of the top 10 into 11th, tied with KFMB (up from 15th). KIFM climbed from 17th to 13th, with XHTY and 91X tied for 14th. KUSS (16th), KOGO (17th), KSCF and XMOR (tied for 18th), and KFMB-AM and RADIO IMAGEN Spanish Contemporary XLTN (tied for 20th) rounded out the top 20.
18-34: KHTS and KLNV led the pack. KIOZ, Z90, and KBZT took the #3 through #5 positions. KMYI and KSON tied for 6th. KLQV and 91X tied for 8th, with KYXY and XHRM tied for 10th.
St. Louis: KSLZ, WARH Split Leadership In Gateway City
No group or station was completely dominant in the SPRING book but CLEAR CHANNEL Top 40 KSLZ and BONNEVILLE Adult Hits WARH (THE ARCH) did share the demo crowns.
25-54: WARH leapt from 3rd to 1st, knocking out EMMIS Rock KSHE, who was still a very solid 2nd. CBS AC KEZK dipped from 2nd to 3rd. BONNEVILLE sees Country WIL surged from 8th to 4th with CLEAR CHANNEL Urban AC KMJM slid from 4th to 5th. EMMIS Talk KFTK and CBS Hot AC KYKY tied for 6th. KSLZ surged from 13th to 8th, with RADIO ONE Urban AC WFUN climbing from 10th to 9th. EMMIS Classic Rock KIHT moved back from 6th to 10th, tying CLEAR CHANNEL Classic Hits KLOU. CLEAR CHANNEL Country KSD was 12th, ahead of CBS Talk KMOX, which dipped from 7th to 13th. EMMIS Alternative KPNT and CH HOLDINGS News/Talk KTRS tied for 14th.
18-49: WARH posted a big leap and now sits at #1 by a healthy margin. KSLZ remained in 2nd, with KSHE dipping from 1st to 3rd. WIL moved from 8th to 4th in this cell as well, just ahead of KPNT, which moved from 7th to 5th. KSD leapt from 10th to 6th, ahead of KMJM and KYKY (who tied for 7th). KEZK and KFTK tied for 9th (the latter up from 15th). CLEAR CHANNEL Urban KATZ-FM slipped from 10th to 11th, just ahead of WFUN in 12th place. RADIO ONE Urban WHHL dropped from 9th to 13th, with KIHT and KLOU tying for 14th.
18-34: KSLZ was #1, but WARH almost doubling and climbing from 8th to 2nd. KPNT slid from 2nd to 3rd, with KATZ-FM 4th and WHHL 5th. KSD did top WIL-FM 18-34 (6th to 7th), with KSHE, KYKY and KEZK rounding out the top 10.
Tampa: WHPT Wins Upper End; WLLD Widens 18-34 Lead; WDUV Soars
The addition of BUBBA THE LOVE SPONGE continued to keep COX Classic Rock WHPT at the top of the 18-49 and 25-54 demos in TAMPA. Meanwhile, CBS Rhythmic WLLD grew for the third book in a row 18-34 and had a sizable lead over CLEAR CHANNEL Top 40 rival WFLZ.
25-54: Bubba charged WHPT was #1 for a second straight book, beating WFLZ by a healthy 41%. CBS Country WQYK held in 3rd, with CLEAR CHANNEL Urban WBTP moving from 5th to 4th. CLEAR CHANNEL News/Talk WFLA climbed from 8th to 5th. A giant leap for COX Soft AC WDUV, which soared from 18th to 6th. WLLD even scored a nice jump 25-54, moving from 13th to 7th, tying with COX AC WWRM. CLEAR CHANNEL Country WFUS, which had a spectacular WINTER book, slid back to 9th from 4th, although still competitive with WQYK. CLEAR CHANNEL Hot AC WMTX rounded out the top 10. COX 80's WPOI remained 11th, tying CBS Classic Hits WRBQ (Q105), which leapt from 15th, and sister Classic Rock WXGL. CLEAR CHANNEL Active Rock WXTB (16th to 14th), edged out COX Alternative WSUN and CBS Smooth AC WSJT, which tied for 15th. WSJT was another Smooth AC station that struggled this book, dropping from 11th.
18-49: WHPT held the top spot, with WLLD and WFLZ tied for 2nd (WLLD moving up from 4th). WBTP slipped from 3rd to 4th. WQYK moved back inside the top 5, moving up from 6th. WWRM, WFUS, WSUN, and WDUV rounded out the top 10 with 'DUV leaping from 19th. WFLA moved from 15th to 11th. WMTX and WPOI tied for 12th, with WXGL sliding back to 14th. CBS Tropical WYUU and WRBQ tied for 15th.
18-34: WLLD won by a 33% margin over WFLZ, which also grew in share but remained in 2nd. WHPT slid from 3rd to 4th. WSUN and WWRM ranked 5th and 6th. WXTB remains 7th. WDUV surged from 21st to 8th, with WFUS and WPOI rounding out the top 10.
Washington: WHUR Dominates Upper End; WKYS Stuns WPGC 18-34, 'PGC Strong 25-54
After seeing the CHICAGO preliminary results, we have to believe that WASHINGTON could well see a change as the market shifts from the diary into the meter. Will the Urban stations be able to hold their shares? Only time will tell, but in the meantime, they look great.
25-54: HOWARD UNIVERSITY Urban AC WHUR and RADIO ONE rival both saw solid share gains to take the top-two positions. This the first book since CITADEL blew up Smooth AC WJZW (now Classic Hits as "True Oldies 105-9"), and many Smooth AC listeners tend to move over to Urban AC. CBS Rhythmic WPGC leapt from 4th to 3rd, tying BONNEVILLE News WTOP-FM. RADIO ONE Urban WKYS moved into the top 5, just ahead of ABC Hot AC WRQX (MIX 107.3), which leapt from 8th to 6th. CLEAR CHANNEL AC WASH dipped from 5th to 7th. CLEAR CHANNEL saw Country WMZQ leap from 10th to 8th, while Top 40 sister WIHT moved from 13th to 9th (tied with Alternative WWDC). CBS Talk WJFK moved from 14th to 11th. CLEAR CHANNEL Classic Hits dropped from 10th to 12th. CBS Tropical WLZL fell from 7th to 13th, ahead of CITADEL News/Talk, which ranked14th. CBS AAA WTGB was stagnant in 15th place.
18-49: WHUR surged in share and widened its18-49 lead over WPGC, which remained in 2nd. WKYS held in 3rd, with WIHT leaping from 8th to 4th. WMMJ held in 5th. WASH jumped from 8th to 6th, WTOP held in 7th, with WRQX and DC101 tied for 8th. WMZQ moved back into the top 10. An off book for WLZL, whixh slid from 4th to 11th. WJFK was steady in 12th, with WBIG slightly up from 14th to 13th, WTGB up from 15th to 14th and WMAL 15th.
18-34: WKYS pulled off a shocker and took WPGC 18-34. WIHT was a strong 3rd (up from 4th), with DC101 4th and WLZL 5th. WHUR, WASH, WMZQ and WRQX (tied), and WMMJ rounded out the top 10.
