CITADEL Talk KABC-A and Classic Rock KLOS/LOS ANGELES will take part in this weekend's LOS ANGELES DODGERS inaugural THINKCURE "radiotelethon" to raise money for the team's official cancer charity. The stations, along with the club's broadcast TV outlet CBS independent KCAL-TV (KCAL 9), will be soliciting donations all weekend, starting with team owner FRANK MCCOURT and manager JOE TORRE joining KLOS morning team MARK AND BRIAN and KABC host DOUG MCINTYRE FRIDAY morning at 5a PT. Both radio stations will feature DODGER guests over a 36-hour period to talk about the event and will broadcast live on SATURDAY from the ballpark before that night's DODGERS-BREWERS game.
The fundraising activities will include an online auction of memorabilia like signed jerseys and a guitar authorized by cancer survivor MELISSA ETHERIDGE, plus a visit to VIN SCULLY's broadcast booth and a trip to the new DODGERS spring training facility in GLENDALE, AZ. A music CD, "DODGERS BASEBALL: MUSIC TO YOUR EARS," will be handed out to fans on FRIDAY, with cuts by OZOMATLI as well as classic baseball songs and a SCULLY introduction, and THINKCURE pens will be given to all fans on FRIDAY and SATURDAY. On FRIDAY, MARILYN MCCOO and BILLY DAVIS JR. (a cancer survivor) will sing the National Anthem, with MICHELLE PHILLIPS throwing out the first pitch; on SATURDAY, the festivities include a luncheon, a baseball clinic for women, a ceremony to honor children and doctors from CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL LOS ANGELES and CITY OF HOPE, and FREDDY "BOOM BOOM" CANNON singing the Anthem and his new DODGERS song.
