In an appearance with JIM VILLANUCCI on CITADEL Talk KKOB-A/ALBUQUERQUE, Sen. JEFF BINGAMAN (D-NM) said that he supports bringing back the "Fairness Doctrine" to force stations like KKOB to air other viewpoints.
Responding to VILLANUCCI's question asking if he would like to see KKOB's programming changed under the law, BINGAMAN said that he would "want this station and all stations to have to present a balanced perspective and different points of view instead of always hammering away at one side. I think that radio and media in general should have a higher calling than just reflecting a particular point of view. For many, many years we operated under a Fairness Doctrine and I think the country was well served by that. I think that public discussion was at a higher level and more intelligent in those days than it has become since."
