Laws Comments Draw Farewell Fines For 2UE/Sydney

FAIRFAX MEDIA Talk 2UE/SYDNEY has been slapped with an A$130,000 fine by the AUSTRALIAN COMMUNICATIONS MEDIA AUTHORITY for "cash for comment" infractions by former star host JOHN LAWS.
LAWS, long a subject of regulatory scrutiny, was found by ACMA to have violated sponsorship identification requirement rules 13 times in the final week before his retirement in NOVEMBER 2007. The violations arose from "farewell calls" taken from sponsors; FAIRFAX chose to pay the fines rather than contest them.
