COX ENTERPRISES has decided to merge its three media units -- COX Newspapers, COX Television and COX Radio -- under a new organization named COX MEDIA GROUP, Inc., effective JANUARY 2009. COX veteran SANDY SCHWARTZ has been named President of the new entity, which will be headquartered in ATLANTA.
"Bringing together our media operations under one organization creates efficiencies that allow us to strengthen COX for the future," COX ENTERPRISES Pres./COO JIMMY HAYES stated. "Working together, our businesses will grow to become more cost effective, learn more from each other and continue their leadership position in serving our markets."
Bringing together our media operations under one organization creates efficiencies that allow us to strengthen Cox for the future.
The COX MEDIA GROUP will include 17 daily and 26 non-daily newspaper publications, 15 television broadcast stations, 86 radio stations, more than a hundred digital services associated with these businesses and VALPAK --although VALPAK and newspaper assets in TEXAS, NORTH CAROLINA and COLORADO are still on the block.
"Another advantage to COX MEDIA GROUP is that we are bringing together our wide array of digital resources that ultimately will lead to enhanced online and mobile experiences for all our audiences," SCHWARTZ said.
Odom Promoted To Cox Radio CFO, Johnston Named Media Group CFO
COX RADIO has upped CHARLES ODOM to CFO and principal accounting officer, effective JANUARY 1st, succeeding NEIL JOHNSTON, who will become CFO of the newly former COX MEDIA GROUP umbrella company including COX RADIO, COX TELEVISION, and COX NEWSPAPERS. ODOM has been with COX RADIO for 12 years as Manager of Financial Reporting, Assistant Controller, and Dir. of Financial Reporting and Analysis.
"These are well-deserved promotions for both of these managers. NEIL has provided excellent leadership in the financial area for COX RADIO, and CHARLES has worked closely with him the entire time," said COX RADIO Pres./CEO BOB NEIL. "CHARLES has been involved in practically every aspect of COX RADIO's financial operations, including communication and meetings with our shareholders. He’ll step right in, and we won’t miss a beat."
