Radio Mercury Awards Competition Starts

Entries to the 2009 RADIO MERCURY AWARDS (RMA) are mow being accepted. A total of $140,000 in cash prizes will be awarded on JUNE 17th in NEW YORK CITY, with one outstanding commercial will break through to win the coveted $100,000 Grand Prize.
The RMA’s will honor "ground-breaking work that harnesses the power of radio to engage consumers and develop meaningful brand connections," its press release stated. "RADIO MERCURY AWARDS judges will be looking for commercials that move beyond traditionally accepted rules and push the envelope in the use of words and sound to evoke personal images that generate emotional responses to a brand’s message."
"Real innovation requires risk-taking and a willingness to embrace new ideas," noted former OGILVY & MATHER Co-Pres./Chief Creative Officer RICK BOYKO, who will serve as Chief Judge for the 2009 RADIO MERCURY AWARDS. "Smart creative that forces us to look at the medium in a different way is the key. We're looking for the spots that showcase where radio is headed."
Other final round judges include ALEX BOGUSKY of CRISPIN PORTER + BOGUSKY, BILL BRUCE of BBDO NEW YORK, PETE FAVAT of ARNOLD WORLDWIDE, DAVID FOWLER of OGILVY & MATHER, JEFF GOODBY of GOODBY, SILVERSTEIN & PARTNERS, MARK GROSS of DDB CHICAGO, MARK NARDI of HILL/HOLLIDAY, BOB SCARPELLI of DDB WORLDWIDE and JOYCE KING THOMAS of MCCANN ERICKSON.
New to the 2009 RADIO MERCURY AWARDS is the $10,000 Integrated Radio Campaign Award, which will spotlight "the effective use of radio creative as an essential component in a multi-media advertising campaign." "We are promoting new thinking in radio advertising,” RAB Pres./CEO JEFF HALEY said. "The ongoing advancements of audio entertainment, information and advertising is emblematic of what we see taking place in the creative arena. We're excited about the creative community’s ongoing involvement in the evolution of radio."
