CHRISTIAN BROADCASTING Christian AC KGNZ/ABILENE, TX, filed a criminal complaint against former employee GEORGE SWEATT. According to ABILENE REPORTER-NEWS, the station filed a complaint against SWEATT for theft more than $1,500 but less than $20,000.
The case is under investigation by the DA’s office. No indictment has been handed down but the case could go to the grand jury as early as this month.
Suspicions against SWEATT surfaced after he moved to NEW YORK and a man visited the station, saying SWEATT owed him $2,600. Shortly thereafter, the wife of GM GARY HILL, HOLLEY, noticed her husband’s signature in unfamiliar handwriting on several station checks.
The issue of unpaid taxes first arose when the INTERNAL REVENUE SERVICE contacted the station in MARCH 2008, reporting that the station was 15 months behind on payroll taxes. The station faced a bill of $90,000 with interest and penalties.
