DREW PETERSON took his campaign to proclaim his innocence in the disappearance of his wife to MANCOW MULLER and PAT CASSIDY's show on CITADEL Talk WLS-A/CHICAGO this morning. PETERSON came on the show to respond to the allegation by his ex-fiancee CHRISTINA RAINES that she broke off their engagement because it was a "publicity stunt."
PETERSON, a former police sergeant whose first wife KATHLEEN SAVIO was found dead in a bathtub and ruled an accidental drowning victim and whose second wife STACY PETERSON went missing in OCTOBER 2007, has been suspected of complicity in STACY's disappearance, but no charges have been brought and he has maintained his innocence.
In the interview, PETERSON said that he did not think that the engagement was a publicity stunt. "You gotta define engagement," PETERSON said. "She actually asked me to marry her, five or six times. A ring was given. I think you call that an engagement. She moved in with her kids."
His lawyer JOEL BRODSKY added, "There’s no question there was a proposal. We have text messages that show a proposal. He gave her a ring. She moved in. They bought furniture together. In some states, that’s common law marriage, let alone engagement."
