â??Performance Rights Actâ?? Hearing In House Set
March 2, 2009 at 10:26 AM (PT)
Another battleground has been set in the Radio Performance Rights War, as House Judiciary Committee chairman JOHN CONYERS has scheduled a hearing by the committee on MARCH 4th at 10a. For the record, CONYERS is an ardent supporter of the Performance Rights Act (H.R. 848).
The hearing has been planned to capitalize on the rally held by performance royalty supporters last week (NET NEWS, 2/24). Coupled with similar legislation in the Senate, passage would enable the Library of Congress’ Copyright Office to set a royalty that terrestrial broadcasters would pay artists and performers for airing their music.
In response the NAB has enlisted 119 supporters for a resolution that opposes any such royalty.
