Condolences to family and friends of ABC NEWS RADIO anchor and former Talk WABC-A/NEW YORK morning news anchor GEORGE WEBER, who was found dead in his BROOKLYN apartment SUNDAY morning, a day before his birthday. WEBER, whose age is being variously reported as 50 and 58, was discovered with multiple stab wounds in his neck after failing to show up for work for two days, and police told the NEW YORK POST that they believe he was murdered sometime FRIDAY evening.
"We are shocked and deeply saddened by the death of our colleague and friend GEORGE WEBER who was the victim of what police have deemed a homicide at his home in BROOKLYN," said ABC NEWS RADIO VP/GM STEVE JONES. "An investigation has been launched by NYPD and we have been assisting them. Our condolences and prayers go out to GEORGE's family and friends at this very difficult time."
NEW YORK Mayor MICHAEL R. BLOOMBERG, who worked with WEBER on the Mayor's weekly show on WABC, said that "GEORGE called news events as he saw them with little regard to party politics or ideology."
WEBER, a PHILADELPHIA native, worked at WAEB-A/ALLENTOWN, KIMN, KTLK-A, and KOA-A/DENVER, KGO-A/SAN FRANCISCO, KOGO-A/SAN DIEGO, and KMPC-A/LOS ANGELES before joining WABC, where he anchored news on CURTIS SLIWA and RON KUBY's show before exiting in FEBRUARY 2008.
